Realignment of the existing single-carriageway A1 onto a new-build dual carriageway, built to near motorway standard with two traffic lanes plus hard shoulder in each direction. The new route will run slightly to the south of the current alignment, from the terminus of the existing dual carriageway at Haddington to the roundabout at the start of the Dunbar bypass. A recent study reccommended that two intermediate junctions should not be constructed: the plan, now accepted, will have no junctions except at its two terminii.

|14 April 2004||Haddington - Dunbar section is now completed and opened.|
