Scheme Outline

Construction of a new dual-two lane route to realign the A417. It will provide a bypass of Brockworth, then a safer ascent and descent of the hills around Crickley and the Air Balloon roundabout. A third lane will be provided on uphill sections. A new free-flowing junction will be constructed to replace the current roundabout. This scheme is the selected option, a tunnel under the hill and a signalised junction at the Air Balloon having been ruled out. This scheme will complete the dualling of the A417/A419 between the M4 and M5.

Progress

8 July 2009 The scheme has now been put on hold until 2019.
3 February 2012 In a response to a letter from two local MPs, the DfT has confirmed that there are no plans to take this scheme forward.
