Scheme Outline

The aims of this scheme are to relieve congestion between junctions 38 (Margam) and 41 (Baglan) of the M4, to reduce traffic on the A48 through residential areas, to improve access to Port Talbot docks, and to open up areas along the waterfront for development.

This will be achieved by building a new section of dual carriageway from Port Talbot Industrial Estate to M4 J38, and by making environmental improvements to the existing A48 through Margam and Taibach, to discourage drivers from using that route.

Progress

14 September 2010	Funding for the scheme was approved on 6 September 2010.
20 January 2011	A ceremony to mark the start of construction was held on 14 December 2010. The work is expected to take 33 months. The main contractor is Costain.
