Scheme Outline

The aim of this scheme is to replace a winding section of the A470 north of Builth Wells with a new single carriageway road to improve safety and overtaking opportunities. The new road will also allow traffic to avoid the low bridge at Cwmbach and the traffic lights at Pont-ar-Ithon.

Progress

14 September 2010 Construction started in February 2010.
26 August 2011 In his response to a question raised at the Welsh Assembly on 3 August 2011, the Minister for Local Government and Communities has indicated that the scheme is still on schedule to be completed by the end of the year. The total cost of construction has been put at £50m.
9 December 2011 The new road was officially opened yesterday.
