Scheme Outline
Construction of a new dual carriageway to realign the A590 away from Ayside, High Newton and Low Newton. Consideration will also be given to full dualling of the A590 from Lindale to Barrow.

| 14 June 2006 | Work is due to start this summer. |

| 14 August 2006 | Signs are up on site to confirm that work is now under way. The start of work ceremony was performed by the youngest and oldest residents of High and Low Newton, 11 and 88 respectively! |
| 14 June 2007 | The halfway point is reached to much fanfare from the local press, who excitedly describe the three miles of dual carriageway as 'mammoth'. |
| 14 April 2008 | The new road is officially opened on April 8th. |
