Scheme Outline
Off-line widening of single-track road through Balnacra and Achnashellach. Currently (December 2009) three routes are under consideration; the Red route stays to the north of the railway, and the Green and Blue routes both involve new crossings at the eastern end.

| 18 August 2010 | Highland Council has recently applied for a European Regional Development Fund grant to improve the section of the A890 from Strathcarron junction to Balnacra level crossing. |
| 29 April 2011 | Improvement of the section from Strathcarron to Balnacra is due to start in September 2011, following Highland Council's successful bid for £0.5m of European funding. |
