Scheme Outline
Construction of a new single carriageway route to bypass the towns of Fochabers and Mosstodloch, currently one of the most notorious bottlenecks on the road between Aberdeen and Inverness. The bypass will pass north of Fochabers and south of Mosstodloch, using the existing bridge over the River Spey.
Progress
| 14 January 2007 | This scheme is not, as previously noted here, under construction. The start of work is now expected in 2008. |
|---|---|
| 26 October 2009 | The construction contract has been awarded to Morrison Construction. The scheme has now moved to start work in 2010. |
| 7 February 2010 | Work on the scheme began on 2 February when the Scottish Transport Minister, Stewart Stevenson, cut the first turf. |
| 27 September 2011 | The section from Cowfords to Coul Brae (Mosstodloch bypass) was officially opened to traffic today. The project is currently running ahead of schedule. |
| 6 January 2012 | The official opening of the remaining section (Fochabers bypass), scheduled for 21 December 2011, has been postponed because of delays caused by the bad weather in early December. Local reports suggest that the road should be open in the next few weeks. |
| 31 January 2012 | The Fochabers bypass was officially opened to traffic today (31 January 2012). The scheme is now complete. |
