Scheme Outline
Widening of the existing grade-separated dual carriageway between the A55 at Ewloe and Queensferry. Widening work north of Queensferry to the English border is now complete. This scheme continues the widened road, providing a new bridge over the River Dee and North Wales Main Line railway. Four lanes will be provided southbound up Aston Hill, with three downhill. Most of the route through Queensferry will have four lanes in each direction.
The route will revert to dual two-lane with signalised junctions north of here, however, as the Highways Agency's scheme on the English side of the border is progressing much more slowly.

Progress
- October 2007
- The public inquiry for this scheme has now started. A major point of contention is that the speed limit on the upgraded road would rise from 50mph to 70mph.
- May 2008
- The scheme is considered too big and costly and is put under review by the Welsh Assembly. It is not likely to return to the roads programme for a long time.
