Scheme Outline
Construction of a new dual carriageway route heading south from the A1046 in Stockton on Tees across the A66 to new housing developments at Ingleby Barwick. When finished it will link to the roundabout at the A19 where the A174 Teesside Parkway begins. When complete it will be given the A135 designation.

- A174 Teesside Parkway built, with plans to extend it west.
- 1992
- Thornaby on Tees bypass is cancelled.
- 2002
- Work begins on South Stockton Link, using unfinished ends of both of the above roads.
