Scheme Outline
Upgrade of M4 junction 13, where the A34 currently crosses the route. The plans will divert the A34 to the west of the junction on three miles of new dual carriageway to pass under the M4 without a junction, with the present dual carriageway through the M4 junction becoming a connecting road merging with the A34 at each end of the new section.
Timeline

- M4 junction 12 to 14 opened.
- 1996
- A34 Newbury Bypass brings A34 to motorway standard north and south of the interchange. The M4 is the last roundabout between Winchester and Oxford on the route.

Progress
- August 2004
- The Transport Minister, Alastair Darling, officially opened the new underpass on 12th August. However, it is only used as a diversion until works are completed and it is fully opened to traffic in September.
- November 2004
- Works are fully completed and the junction is opened to traffic.
