Scheme Outline
Off-line upgrade of existing single-carriageway four-lane A77 between Mearns and Kilmarnock to M77, with two traffic lanes plus hard shoulder in each direction.

- Upgrade scheme of A77 from Glasgow to Kilmarnock published.
- 1996
- Local inquiries held in Kilmarnock; the poor design and alignment of A77 is stressed.
- 1996
- M77 from Glasgow to Malletsheugh completed.
- 2002
- Car crash on single-carriageway four-lane A77 south of Mearns results in death of high-ranking police officer. Scottish Executive refuses to state this is linked to the works.
- 2003
- Work schedule is brought forward and construction work on upgrade begins for safety reasons.
- 2005
- Estimated completion.
