Scheme Outline

Provision of dynamic hard-shoulder running (use of the hard shoulder as a fourth lane during busy periods) between J23-27 of the M25, in order to increase capacity of the existing road space, and thus reduce congestion.

This replaces an earlier proposal to widen the section to four lanes each way.

Progress

27 October 2010 Funding for this scheme was confirmed in a statement by the Transport Secretary yesterday.
25 December 2010 The original plan to widen this section of the M25 has been abandoned in favour of a Managed Motorway scheme, with hard-shoulder running.
1 December 2011 This scheme forms part of the National Infrastructure Plan, announced earlier this week. The Government therefore intends to accelerate progress.
