Scheme Outline

Installation of Active Traffic Management (ATM) on this length of the M62 motorway, with J25-26 enabled to use hard shoulder running permanently and others dynamically during busy times only.

The scheme replaces a previous proposal to fully widen the M62 to dual four-lanes, which has now been scrapped.

Progress

28 February 2010 Works to remove central reservation lighting in order to install concrete step barrier are well advanced, with hard shoulder running and narrow lanes in effect enforced by 50mph speed limit and average speed cameras.
24 August 2010 The start of main phase of work, planned for October 2010, has been delayed pending the autmn spending review.
21 October 2010 Funding for this project was re-confirmed in a DfT press release yesterday, following the autumn spending review announcement.
18 April 2011 Work is now due to start in late 2011.
16 July 2011 The construction contract for this scheme was awarded on 13 July 2011. Work is expected to start this autumn.
14 September 2011 Preparatory work is scheduled to start on 26 September 2011.
13 October 2011 The official start of construction was announced today. A 50 mph speed limit is now in force between J27-28.
