Scheme Outline

Construction of a new single carriageway, two lane bridge across the River Forth slightly north of the existing Kincardine Bridge. The scheme will link the new bridge to the A876 at a roundabout, and dual the A876 between there and the M876, providing a new grade-separated junction at the terminus of the M876. The scheme also includes a new access road to allow traffic to reach the eastern end of the Kincardine Bridge without passing through Kincardine itself.

Progress

August 2004
The eastern link road, providing a bypass of Kincardine and linking to the existing bridge, is now completed and open to traffic.
February 2005
The Kincardine Bypass section of the scheme is now open to traffic.
June 2005
The Upper Forth Crossing part of the scheme has been approved by the Scottish Executive. Work is due to start in 2006 and the new bridge will be open in 2008. This part of the scheme includes dualling the A876 and grade separation of the end of the M876.
May 2006
The contract for the design and construction of the new bridge was awarded to Morgan-Vinci in March, along with about four miles of new road to connect it to the existing trunk road network. The work is now scheduled to begin in June.
October 2006
Construction is now well underway with a petrol station and other buildings demolished, and earthworks taking place around Bowtrees roundabout.
March 2008
The new bridge, which was being pushed across the river from the south side, has now reached the opposite bank. Completion of the rest of the scheme, including finishing the bridge deck and earthworks, is due by the end of 2008.
2 November 2008
Crossing will open on 19 November 2008 and be called the \'Clackmannanshire Bridge\'.
19 November 2008
The bridge was opened today by the First Minister. Transport Scotland is expecting up to 20,000 vehicles to cross per day.
