J10 Regent Street
We're heading for Regent Street now - and oh my, a classified route! These diagrammatics seem to try to recreate the exact layout of the junction with every twist of the route displayed.
For once, the lanes are signposted! This would be a major help at other junctions, but here the sign is too small and too close to the junction to be much use. Still, they tried. Bless.
Here's the junction itself, below the cheerily painted concrete of the IRR. "All Loop Traffic" has now become a destination along the A61.
J11 Eastgate
Green primary signs look somehow odd on the Loop. And doesn't the logo just look great? Again, the all-important "All Loop Traffic" is dwarfed by the multicoloured patches of other roads.
The actual junction is a roundabout built to terminate Eastgate, a dual carriageway carved through the city in the 1930's. We crossed it by the Town Hall when it was known as the Headrow.
J12 Quarry Hill
A right hand exit? Does this suggest grade-separation? This sign has no logo and the spacing on it seems askew. Many of these complaints are minor, but it's telling that there has been a complaint of some sort about each sign along the way.
This sign applies only to the left-hand side of the fork - which is splitting away from the Loop. So why the junction number? Oh, never mind...
Here's the junction - not a fork at all, but actually a crossroads, which the signs completely neglect to mention! The road does split, then wriggles through the railway viaduct. Just to prove it there's a Virgin Voyager on top.
This is actually a busy crossroads, so it's very surprising that the signs ignore it. The Loop's wide arch has a white pull-through sign reading "All Loop Traffic/Waterfront Parking".
J13
This is the only actual junction between J12 and J14 - but the only sign is a confirmatory one for car parking. Where's the big confusing signs? Where's the fanfare? Where's the logos? Could they not at least stick a little "Loop" repeater sign somewhere?
