Epilogue

Media reports about this incident stated that the closure of the M6 southbound caused tailbacks of about 20 miles, and the diversion via the A500 through Stoke on Trent caused even more congestion when an accident took place there later that day.

The M6 was closed southbound for the following two nights in order to finish resurfacing works, and this news was featuring in the local news as far away as Birmingham the next day.

Incidents of this type - mostly smaller scale, but some larger - happen all over the country every day.
