Welcome to Mexico
To me it's the place that gave us tacos, burritos and guacamole, but to Jonathan Winkler it's so much more. Having headed south of the border on a number of occasions, he is well placed to provide an introduction to the roads of Mexico.

"These pages attempt to give a very brief overview of Mexican roads. Although I have tried to provide some very general information about Mexican roads policy and the experience of driving in Mexico, the presentation is structured around an east-to-west journey across the Sierra Madre in Chihuahua and Sonora states I made in the winter of 2002-03. I made the journey with an elderly Nissan Maxima, occasionally visible in these pictures, whose name "Rosie" refers less to her wine-red body color and more to Don Quixote's faithful steed Rocinante. Rosie and I entered Mexico at Ojinaga (opposite Presidio, Texas) on the last day of 2002, and left via the westernmost of Nogales' three ports of entry about a week later."
