The twin of the impressively-preserved M45 (also available as a video

is the M10, branching off the M1 and forming the southern section of the St Albans bypass. It was opened at the same time as the M1 and M45 in 1959, but isn't quite as well preserved. All the same it remains interesting for its small part in motorway history. Given its incredibly important-sounding number, its length is usually a surprise, and if you watch closely you'll see it has one straight section and three bends on its route. The video plays at real-time, contains a substantial length of M1 beforehand, and still comes in at three minutes long.

It's also important to record this route for posterity, because the M1 widening works will mean that the M10 will soon cease to be and will instead become part of the A414.

With thanks to Steven Jukes who was at the wheel.
