Looking westbound from the B3035 Botley Road overbridge, just north of junction 7. This is the last section of concrete surface remaining on the motorway.

The view westbound from the B3033 overpass, showing the merge from junction 8. Until the mid-1990s this section of motorway had catenary lighting.

Thumbnail

Looking westbound from Whiteley Lane, with junction 9 in the distance. The parallel carriageways were meant to eliminate weaving between the junction and a planned service area that was never built. The nearest parallel carriageway was built but is unused. In the other direction its counterpart is used as an exit slip for J9.

The view from the opposite side of the same bridge shows the eastbound parallel carriageway end suddenly as it starts to turn away from the motorway. In the other direction traffic exiting for junction 9 merges with a stub which would have been the exit from the westbound services.
