Until recently the M69 was most notorious for its old, noisy and uncomfortable concrete surface - luckily this was recently replaced. Now it's just the motorway between Leicester and Coventry without any memorable features.
Bigger things were planned for this road, since at the Leicester end it seems to finish at an incomplete junction. Before the northern end the carriageways split quite a way apart, leaving room for a northern extension, while the actual motorway swerves east to the M1 roundabout. North of here, the motorway was planned to cross the M1 and connect to the A563 Leicester Outer Ring Road close to its junction with the A47. There would have been access between the M1 to the north and M69 to the south by way of a 270-degree loop. Local opposition to this plan halted it, though a multi-modal study now reccommends using the unfinished end to provide free-flow access to the M1.
Additionally, inside information reveals that when the M69 was planned, the intention was to continue it south from Coventry, forming what is now the eastern bypass, and continue to connect to the end of the M50. The plan was scrapped and replaced with the M42 - and early plans had a route from M42 J3a to the M50 as well.
None of this, of course, ever saw light of day, leaving this road to save Leicester and Coventry traffic from having to drive through Nuneaton. As a result the six lanes of the M69 are very rarely congested.
