The M73 sort of bypasses Glasgow to the east, taking in the motorways and not much else. For a long time the M73 was the only way to get anywhere from northbound M74, since unless you took the M73 you were dumped abruptly onto a single carriageway A-road tootling towards Glasgow through the suburbs.
Recently a new local junction, 2A, was added to the list. The only likely alterations now remaining are if the M80 goes ahead, in which case the M73 will get a very short northern extension to reach the new road's alignment.

Northbound, at the M8 interchange. Despite the impressive multi-level junction, the M73 passes over the top and the whole thing looks pretty insignificant.

At the northern terminus, the entire motorway swings to the right, narrows to one lane and merges with the A80.
