The M9 south-eastbound, approaching the M876 exit. The signs ahead read "M876 Kincardine Bridge", "Grangemouth, Edinburgh M9" and "For Rosyth Ferry follow Kincardine Bridge".

Heading northbound now to junction 1A. The M9 is a little too cut-price for gantry signs, so a simple lane allocation sign is all we get here.

The actual split at 1A. The sliproad is separated but parallel for quite a while - probably to give motorists enough time to slow down to that advisory 30.

A list of all the exciting places you can go from here (excluding anyone planning to travel more than 28 miles). Behind that, we are welcomed to West Lothian by a green border sign and a large slag heap. (Actually, it's a shale blaes bing and its contents are being used to extend the M9 spur towards the Forth Road Bridge.)

The approach to the split-level section at Linlithgow, where the motorway was designed to make as little impact as possible on the grounds of the palace. It also gives both carriageways a very clear view of the palace itself.
