The Forth Road Bridge is at the southern end of the M90. Okay, technically it's the A90, and the motorway doesn't get this far. But it seems unfair to miss it out just for that. This is the approach from the north.

Travelling northbound, the start of the motorway is here, as the A90 travels steeply downhill with Dunfermline's valley laid out ahead.

The space between junctions 1 and 2 is virtually non-existent. The 100m countdown marker is placed at the exact point the previous sliproad begins its merge.

The A823(M) is obviously only a fragment of a much larger plan. It's widely thought that the A92, a more modern grade-separated route to Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, does the job it was meant to do. There is even some evidence to suggest a completed A823(M) would have been called M92.

Travelling southbound at that bend - the tightest corner on the motorway network, and some sources suggest that the design standards were amended to make it permissible. Note that coming the other way (the tighter curve is northbound) there are chevron signs to highlight the severity of the turn.

The split for A90 or A9 takes place to the south of Perth, at this impressive interchange. It is seen here heading southbound from the A90 direction.

Crossing the Friarton Bridge near Perth, on what was once M85, the rather sudden geography of this area is readily apparent.
