Progress

This scheme has been completed and CBRD is no longer accepting progress updates.
30 October 2009

Contracts for the new junction have now been signed clearing the way for work to begin. Funding for the northern approach link road has also been approved. The junction and link road are due to be completed by March 2011.

2 March 2010

Work began in December 2009 and the junction is now due to be completed by March 2011.

23 July 2010

Bridge now in and the junction scheme is now three months ahead of schedule. However, the funding for the link road is not in place and this will open in summer 2012 at the earliest.

25 December 2010

Junction 28 was officially opened to traffic on Thursday 16th December 2010, 3 months ahead of schedule. The new BP service station, located next to the Suffolk-bound carriageway (but accessible to both north and southbound traffic) is also complete and fully open.

23 October 2011

According to local press reports work on the connecting link road to the junction is scheduled to begin in January 2012.

29 September 2014

Work on the connecting link road (Northern Approaches Road Phase 3) has now begun, almost four years after the junction opened.

6 November 2014

Work on site began in September 2013 - the Site Compound was set-up off Axial Way, a few hundred yards from the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Steady progress has been made throughout 2014, with the works really taking shape from May 2014. In September, works reached the point where they needed to be connected to the existing Northern Approach Road (NAR A134) just north of the junction with Mill Road. For safety reasons, it wasn't possible to keep the current NAR A134 open during the works. As a consequence, the NAR A134 was closed temporarily between its junction with Mill Road and the Boxted Road roundabout. A four-mile diversion was put in place, causing long delays - particularly in peak periods. Work was scheduled to last for six weeks from 22 September 2014. ECC and BAM Nuttall site teams worked hard to accelerate the works to re-open the road at the earliest possible opportunity: this was achieved at lunchtime on 23rd October 2014, 10 days ahead of schedule. Latest information: the NAR3 may be finished and open by Christmas 2014.

19 February 2015

The road was due to open on 13 February 2015 but due to electrical problems feeding street signs and traffic lights this has been delayed for another week or few.

8 April 2015

Road opened today with no official fanfare or announcement allowing traffic to pass direct from the A12 to the A134 NAR. Other junctions off of this road are yet to be completed.
