A13 and M25 J30 Congestion Relief Scheme

Scheme outline

The aims of the scheme are to increase capacity and reduce congestion on a busy section of the A13 between M25 J30 and the A126 Lakeside access. Improvement of the transport infrastructure in this area is seen as critical to the further development of the Lakeside Basin and Thames Gateway.

Exact details are still to be finalised, but the scheme is likely to include improvements to M25 J30 and widening of the A13. The restricted access junction of the A13 and A126 (Lakeside) may also be targeted.

The start of development work was announced on 08 May 2012.

Progress

This scheme has been completed and CBRD is no longer accepting progress updates.
7 February 2015

The Highways Agency website states that works are due to start in late February 2015.

19 July 2015

As of June, work has progressed with removing old gantries, installing new and improved drainage, and ecological work continues.

24 September 2016

The work on the A13 is largely complete, with three lanes now in operation on the A13 and an increased speed limit of 50mph, the fourth lane is surfaced and marked, ready to be opened. Signage and gantries on the A13 are also complete and are in position ready for opening. The main bulk of the work now remains on the J30 roundabout and all slip roads, the left turn slips avoiding the roundabout have been constructed and are awaiting markings. The slip roads themselves have been resurfaced and are awaiting markings, the old traffic lights are still in place, and so is some of the lighting. But overall this scheme looks well on track to open on time, and perhaps earlier!

13 May 2017

The project is finished and fully open to traffic.
