Construction of a new single carriageway road to bypass Newtown to the south, in order to reduce congestion in the centre of Newtown. The new road will follow the preferred Orange Option. Construction began in March 2016, with a given completion date of Winter 2017/18.

A bypass for Newtown was first planned 40 years ago.

Progress

5 November 2010 Plans to start preliminary design and survey work were announced on 13 October 2010. Construction is not expected to start before 2014.
9 March 2016 Some initial construction work began on 7 March 2016.
