Off-line widening of single-track road through Balnacra and Achnashellach to a 6m-wide two-lane carriageway.

Three possible routes were considered: the Red route stays to the north of the railway, and the Green and Blue routes both involve new crossings at the eastern end.

The final preferred route is based on the Red proposal.

Progress

20 December 2009 Proposals are on display at Highland Council Service Point in Lochcarron.
18 August 2010 Highland Council has recently applied for a European Regional Development Fund grant to improve the section of the A890 from Strathcarron junction to Balnacra level crossing.
29 April 2011
10 January 2017 Planning application 16/04431/FUL has been submitted, giving authority to construct the Red route.
