Upgrade of the existing single carriageway A9 to provide a dual two-lane road from Dalraddy, close to Loch Alvie, past Aviemore to the southern end of the existing dual carriageway at Slochd. This scheme is the largest single section in the A9 dualling programme, providing 25 km (15.5 miles) of new dual carriageway in one go.
As well as requiring a number of new grade separated junctions and a large number of crossings for non-motorised users, the geography of this section of the A9 presents particular problems. The ground varies between hard rock and peat, and the alignment is constrained in places by the nearby railway line. For these reasons, this will be one of the later schemes in the wider programme to reach the construction stage.
This scheme is part of the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness programme of works.
