Programmes

Some Road Schemes listed on CBRD are part of wider programmes of works. We maintain programme pages for these, which explain the wider context and link related schemes together.

This is a listing of all the programmes we are currently tracking.

A47 Corridor Improvement

The A47 runs from Birmingham to Lowestoft via Nuneaton, Peterborough and Norwich, but the "A47 corridor" to which Highways England refer is the trunk road from Peterborough to Lowestoft. In 2017 a £300m package of improvements was announced for the route, with a mix of road widening and junction improvement schemes. The work is due to take place from 2020.

A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness

One of the UK's biggest programmes of road spending - not just now but for many years - the Scottish Government's commitment to upgrade the A9 to a fast dual carriageway between Perth and Inverness will see £3bn spent over a ten year period.

Expressway to the South West

Highways England have long-term plans to create a continuous expressway route to South West England from London along the A303 and A358, incorporating existing dual carriageway sections and building new ones to link them. The finished route will run from the M3 at junction 8 south-west of Basingstoke to the M5 at Taunton.

Smart Motorways

One key part of Highways England's expanded programme of road improvements is the conversion of large parts of the English motorway network to operate as Smart Motorways. This is intended to increase capacity and reduce delays without expensive conventional widening works.
