A120

A120

Bishop's Stortford
to
Braintree

The A120 is an east-west route across the middle of Essex, linking Stansted Airport and the M11 with the A12, Colchester and routes onwards to Harwich.

Routes

A120 Braintree to A12 15 October 2017

Replacement of the existing A120 between Braintree and the A12 with a new purpose-built dual two-lane road. The existing road suffers congestion and unpredictable journey times, and takes a circuitous route that passes through numerous roundabouts at Coggeshall. This scheme aims to replace it with a continuation of the free-flowing A120 expressway from Stansted Airport to Braintree.

Routes

A120 Stansted - Braintree 26 October 2008

Realignment of the A120 between Stansted Airport and Braintree. The new route is a new-build road with dual two-lane carriageways and hard shoulders, with provision for addition of an extra lane. This is a very rare large-scale road project, with 32 structures (such as bridges) on the route.

M11 J8 Stansted 23 October 2008

Provision of new free-flow links between the Stansted Airport approach road and the M11 to the south to ease chronic congestion at the junction. Alteration of junctions to allow the new A120 to flow directly onto the M11.
