A2 Wincheap Improvement 25 August 2011
Proposal to upgrade the A2-A28 interchange at Wincheap to provide north facing sliproads, in order to improve access to the Wincheap and Chartham areas, as well as cutting congestion in western Canterbury. At present the junction only has south-facing sliproads.
The Londonbound on-slip to the A2 will be the first of two to be constructed, with clearing work starting in September. A former community centre will be demolished to make way for this along with new traffic signals.
Opening booklets 13 June 2010
In days gone by, new roads were often celebrated with a grand opening ceremony and the issue of a commemorative booklet heralding the exciting new highway. You'll find some of them here, complete with a glimpse of all that empty tarmac and a healthy dose of modernist optimism.
A2 Bean to Cobham: Phase 2 14 April 2010
Partly online, partly offline upgrade of the existing dual three-lane all-purpose dual carriageway A2 south and south-east of Gravesend to dual four-lane motorway standard (with hard shoulders but not classed as motorway). The works will involve upgrades of various junctions, Marlin Cross being significantly redesigned. The old carriageway will be turned into a green corridor separating adjacent housing from the road.
M25 and A2 Widening 2 November 2008
Works to widen the M25 to dual four-lane carriageways between junction 1B and the A2. The A2 will be widened from dual three to dual four-lane carriageways between the M25 and Bean, where previous widening works finished. New direct sliproads will be added to the A2/M25 interchange between the northern and eastern arms.
