to
Gretna

Two numbers, one road. The main road south from Glasgow, and indeed most of Scotland thanks to its connections with the M73 and A702, is having something of an identity crisis.

M74 J5 Improvement 23 May 2017

Reconstruction of the existing interchange at M74 J5, which at present is a simple grade-separated roundabout. A new underpass 625 metres (683 yards) in length will allow the A725 to bypass the roundabout, with existing approaches to the roundabout becoming links from the new dual carriageway. The A725 will be realigned over a total length of 1.8 Km (1.1 miles).

M8 M73 M74 Network Improvements 18 December 2015

This scheme aims to improve safety and reduce congestion on the motorway network surrounding the Baillieston (M8/M73) and Maryville (M73/M74) Interchanges. It also forms the link between a number of improvements to the motorway network in this area (M80 Stepps to Haggs, M74 Completion, M8 Baillieston to Newhouse), and is therefore expected to improve traffic flow between these projects.

The package of junction and road improvements includes the following:

1. Widening the M8 eastbound to four lanes from J10 (Easterhouse) to J8 (Baillieston).
