The A12 is the main road through deepest Essex, providing access from London to Suffolk and the key ports of Harwich, Felixstowe and Lowestoft.

A12 Chelmsford-Marks Tey Widening 15 October 2017

Improvement works to the A12 between junction 19 (north of Chelmsford) and junction 25 (Marks Tey, where the A120 approaches from Braintree) to provide three lanes in each direction for the whole of this length, a distance of 25 km (15 miles). At present this part of the A12 is a grade-separated dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. Short, isolated sections have a third lane between junctions in a small number of places.

M25 J28 Improvement 27 August 2017

Improvements to M25 junction 28, the interchange with the A12 and A1023 west of Brentwood, to alleviate congestion that is currently a frequent problem. The existing junction is a Three Level Stacked Roundabout but extremely high volumes of turning traffic make the signalised roundabout a serious problem.

The preferred route, announced in summer 2017, is option 5F which will provide a very large looped sliproad from the anticlockwise M25 to the eastbound A12. New bridges will allow it to cross the existing sliproads to and from the roundabout.

A12 J28 Colchester Link 10 April 2015

Construction of a new junction on the A12 to link to a development area to the north of Colchester. The junction will be a dumbbell type, with a 1km link road connecting it to the A134 (this, the final stage of the Northern Approaches Road, will open in 2012), Park and Ride facilities, a new BP service station (to replace the existing one nearby) and the new Colchester United football ground.

A14 Copdock Interchange and Dock Spur Roundabout Improvements 21 December 2011

The aims of this scheme are to increase capacity and improve safety at two junctions on the A14 in Suffolk - J55 (Copdock Interchange, A14/A12), near Ipswich, and J60 (Dock Spur Roundabout, A14/A154), at Felixstowe.

At the Copdock Interchange, where congestion is the major problem, additional lanes will provided on parts of the roundabout and on some of the approach roads. In addition, the roundabout will be fully signalised.
