The Mighty A470

You can say all sorts of things about the A470, because it's a very long road. In fact, I have already said quite a few things about it in a photo tour of the full length of the road, which is elsewhere on CBRD. This video concentrates on one particular section, though: the fast dual carriageway from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff. There are few other places in the UK where a high-standard road such as this has been pushed through such demanding terrain: the river valley the road follows is not very flat or straight, and it's inconveniently littered with towns and villages, such that the ten-mile section shown here, from Treharris to the M4, is effectively one long semi-urban expressway. The engineering on the way is impressive and the corners are nail-biting.
This video follows the A470 through Pontypridd, and exits to head west on the M4, which involves using three sides of one of the UK's largest roundabouts. Yes: the four-lane road towards the end of the video, with traffic lights and long, long straight sections, is the circulatory carriageway of a roundabout.
Bravo, A470: your might leaves lesser roads in awe.
The A470 runs from Cardiff to Llandudno: the whole distance, recorded in photographs, is elsewhere on CBRD.
