The Boring Talks

Published on 21 January 2019

Earlier this month I was delighted to find myself a guest speaker on Radio 4's The Boring Talks, a podcast about things that might sound boring but might not be.

It's actually been available for a couple of weeks, but I've been away, so it was mentioned on my twitter feed but not here until now.

If you're a regular visitor to you will be used to the idea that something you find very interesting might sound boring to other people, so perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised to get the invitation. In the finished podcast, you can hear me explain how I ended up running this website for the last seventeen years, and why it's a certain set of roads that don't exist that hold the ultimate fascination for me. Most people who have heard it have told me it wasn't actually boring at all, so I will apologise for that oversight now.

I don't normally do talks of any kind about roads - I just write things here and hope people won't find them too boring - so I should add that the very talented producers and studio managers at BBC Radio 4 are responsible for turning my ramblings into something worth twenty minutes of your day.

Please do have a listen, if you haven't already. You can find it on the BBC website, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Normal service will resume later this week, with an intriguing story involving the M1 and a large cake.

Listened to the podcast on my way into work this morning. I enjoyed it so much I had to loiter suspiciously outside for a couple of minutes to get to the end - great job!
